OBITUARY of KAWAMURA Mitsunobu

Kawamura Mitsunobu, CEO of Japanese film production/distribution company Star Sands, Inc., has passed away on June 11, 2022, at the age of 72. Kawamura produced numerous high-profile and ambitious films such as Miyamoto (2019, selected for Japan Now section at the 32nd TIFF), i -Documentary of the Journalist- (2019, selected for Japanese Cinema Splash section at the 32nd TIFF), The Journalist (2019), Mother (2020), A Family (2021), Intolerance (2021, selected for Nippon Cinema Now section at the 34th TIFF), and Village (2023).
 
TIFF had the opportunity to screen many of his films, and at the 32nd TIFF in 2019, he won Japanese Cinema Splash Best Film Award as an executive producer of i -Documentary of the Journalist- (Director: Mori Tatsuya).
 
At the 33rd TIFF in 2020, he participated in the special talk session “The Future of Cinema and Streaming” in “Asia Lounge”, where he shared his passion for the future of film streaming in terms of the independent film industry.
