An internationally acclaimed Korean actress Kang Soo-yeon has passed away at the age of 55 on May 7, 2022.
She won the Best Actress at the Venice International lFilm Festival and the Three Continents Festival for her role in The Surrogate Womb, a 1986 film directed by Im Kwon-taek.
Kang served as the member of the International Competition jury at the 3rd Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) in 1989 along with the President of Jury, Yves Montand. She also participated in the 12th TIFF in 1999 when Rainbow Trout directed by Park Chong-won which she starred in was selected in the main competition section. The film won the Special Jury Prize.
